Curriculum Vitae
Zmago Kovač, professor of fine arts Born in May 1964 in Maribor. I spent my childhood years in Kamnica. We lived next to a forest full of secrets, where everything was bustling with life. In the yard, when it rained, a fine sand deposit accumulated, which dried in the sun into a fine dust, a washcloth that I collected in the palm of my hand and in the summer wind threw it high into the air and called "kurim" beside it, and even now it a vivid wonderful sense of freedom with it. Near the grandmother's house, beyond the great hills of Pohorje, there was a rustling forest with large trees, and the ground was covered with moss, soft and bushy, so that the bare foot penetrated up to the ankles and you walked on it like on the finest carpet. Large mushrooms looked out of it. Mists rose from everywhere and fairies danced in the sun's rays, it was a world of mystery and magic which slowly disappeared in the modern tourist bustle. School years - a story about walking in shoes that are too tight 1984 – 86 Pedagogical Academy 1986 – 88 simple life and creation in the forest and wilderness 1988 - 89 - study trip to India - Bihar, Madya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh cycle of watercolors, drawings and sketches from the journy 1989 – 93 I lived in Istria, by the river Dragonja, mostly in a small stone house in the wilderness, where the primalness of living and the connection with the river gave me the mystical dimensions of life. I occasionally grazed goats in abandoned fields in the Drnica valley. In those days, those places were forgotten by the world. I made various figurines out of clay, which I left standing outdoors and watched them return to the earth when it rained. During this time, he created works in the technique of oil on canvas and watercolors, which I also exhibited in 1991 (Istrian landscape) in the central library of Srečko Vilhar in Koper. 1995 – 1998 – Continuation of studies at the second level 1996 – 2005 – Participation in major, demanding restoration projects, mostly work on murals, old oil painting and restoration of old stone statues with masters Viktor Gojkovic and Mira Ličen Krmpotič 2003 – 2015 – Teaching art at several primary schools, most recently at the Wadorf School in Maribor 2004 – 2009 – led creative workshops at the summer camps of the association for cerebral palsy Sonček – children, adolescents and adults 2007 – 2009 – led painting and clay modeling courses 2010 – 2017 – Art camp Maribor - led summer creative workshops for children, youth and adults 2018 – 2020 – Conducting intergenerational creative workshops 2015 – freelancer Solo Exhibitions
